Are we there yet, Papa Smurf? Well, we are very close, my little smurfs!  One week of school left!

We descended upon the dentist office this week, with all four children getting checkups. Close to 90 teeth and no cavities!  Woohoo! Doodlebug even managed not to have a complete meltdown. She was on the edge, but she held it together!

Thursday night we went on a nature walk with Daddy. The kids had a good time counting tree rings, looking under rocks, and playing with ladybugs. We picked a couple of different types of daisies and decided to learn more about them for our nature study. We read about composite flowers and examined our daises with our little handheld microscope. We identified the larger flower as an oxeye daisy (which is actually a chrysanthemum) and the smaller ones as daisy fleabane.

In school this week Sassafras finished up history, spelling, and science for the year. She finished reading Amos Fortune: Free Man, and we finished Johnny Tremain. (Notice that finished is the word of the week!) The Z-man finished his critical thinking workbook and handwriting. He’s making good progress in Explode the Code 4 and will hopefully finish the book next week. Little Man is still plugging along in his Kumon and Explode the Code workbooks, while defending the world from the dark side in his free time. Doodlebug tried new tricks on the swingset this week and scared squirrels away from the bird feeder (the perfect job for a feisty toddler!).

As for myself, I started reading Gulliver’s Travels, as well as a church history book, Feminine Threads: Women in the Tapestry of Christian History. This morning I attended a Mother’s Day brunch at a local church. It was so yummy—chilled tomato avocado soup (I think that’s what it was), asparagus, grilled pineapple, some spinach cheese egg-type stuff, and other goodies. I don’t know what it all was, but it was good. It made me feel guilty about my kids eating frozen pizza when we got home. Okay, maybe not that guilty. 🙂 Happy Mother’s Day!!
